New Ragu Review

******Giveaway now closed...thanks!*********

This is a sponsored review from BlogHer and Ragú.

Ragu contacted me and wondered if I would sample their new Traditional Pasta sauce and compare it with the old formula. No problemo. We’re all about free pasta sauce around here.

We broke them open and started tasting…

My first impression was that the new formula was much thicker and a tad sweeter. It tasted more homemade than the old formula. Plus 2 servings of veggies in each serving??

Two thumbs up from me!

Lets see what the kids think:

A careful examination

Landon votes for the new version:september 2010 011 1

My 5 year old likes both, and my 3 year old likes the new formula.september 2010 018 1

september 2010 019 1

We vote for the new & improved version! My two daughters are at piano lessons, so they can vote later at dinner.

Speaking of dinner, we did not let these jars go to waste. We made one of my husband’s family favorites, Classic Stuffed Shells. You can find the recipe on Ragu’s site here.

september 2010 021 1This recipe is what we would call a six-er. Meaning, 6 out of the 7 of us love it. Anything above a fiver in this family is a major victory for me. This recipe makes a huge batch (a 10X13 pan plus an 8X8) so I make them on a calm night (wait….is there such thing??) and then freeze half for a crazy night that I can just throw in the oven and heat it up and serve it with some bread and salad. september 2010 025 1

You will feel all good-mommish inside because your kids are getting 2 servings of veggies from the pasta sauce, plus whatever they eat from the salad.

Now, because of their awesomeness, BlogHer is giving one of you wonderful 320 Sycamore readers a $100 Visa gift card!

We then put this mixture in a casserole dish, top it with cheese and pepperoni, and pop it under the broiler for just a few minutes. Served with salad and garlic toast, pizza pasta is a yummy twist on traditional pasta and sauce dishes.

My daughter doesn't like meat in her sauce, so I keep some separate for her, but my son and I both love to add some extra lean ground turkey (seasoned with italian seasonings and garlic). I then add some fresh mozzarella on top of his(he's on a high fat diet) and I serve our Ragu over whole wheat pasta. Mangia!

  163. My favorite use for sauce is to buy the pre-made cheese tortellini from the store, heat it up, and slather it with sauce. It's a GREAT solution to those nights when dinner gets a late start. Quick, easy, and yummy!

  171. Pasta Sauce and Slow Cookers are a marriage made in Heaven - I kid you not! Our fav is a jar of sauce, a tub of ricotta, some diced chicken thigh or breast and a couple of handfulls of chopped vegetables in the slow cooker before I go to work in the morning. Boil up some past when I get home and instant yumminess!

  175. I put skinless boneless chicken breasts in a slow cooker, pour one or two jars of sauce on top, and let it cook. A salad and some pasta with that, and you have a yummy meal. (the spaghetti sauce mixed with alfredo sauce is really good!)
